The Guidance Counselor provides direct guidance to the High school student in their academic preparation for high school that best prepares each student for college and/or the workforce. Remembering that Thomas Sumter Academy is a college preparatory school, that is the primary focus for our high school graduates. In addition to our high school student preparation, the Guidance Counselor does provide his or herself as a resource for each and every student to speak with — especially in the area of conflict resolution, etc.
Reports to: Head of School
Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a list of primary duties but it may not be all-inclusive:
Coordinate with each high school student regarding his/her academic pathway that best prepares the student for each to achieve their desired goals.
Assist in developing individual goals for each high school student to include college applications and scholarship opportunities.
Be readily available for students to discuss issues/concerns.
Work with the Head of School in implementing the Advisor Program.
Assist the Head of School in planning professional development sessions
Ensure student awareness regarding testing dates and locations for pSAT; SAT; and ACT.
Keep the high school student body informed of dates, locations, and times of nationally normed tests previously mentioned.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School/Assistant Head of School
Work with Division Heads as necessary to ensure consistency in awareness.
Directly responsible for the Dual Enrollment program and the liaison with CCTC. Must coordinate periodic discussions with students and their parents while ensuring current information is provided and discussed with TSA’s administration.
Attend Weekly Staff/ Administration meetings.
Track graduation requirements for each student and keep students and parents updated as to progress and necessary action steps.
Coordinate and facilitate the middle school and high school scheduling.
Conduct other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School; Assistant Head of School (when assigned)
